Sometimes danger doesn't leave bruises.
Sometimes it leaves silence, fear, and a trembling breath that takes time to steady.
And sometimes, protection isn't loud vengeance -
it's quiet presence, steady hands, and faith standing guard.
Haris POV -
Haris stood outside Hazel's college gates again.
The place looked ordinary. Quiet. Students passing by like nothing had happened.
But his chest still felt tight.
Kabir stood beside him, arms crossed. Ejza leaned against the car, expression unreadable - dangerous in its calm.
"They've been identified," Kabir said. "CCTV. Washroom corridor. Clear."
Haris nodded once.
No rage.
No shouting.
Just a decision settling deep inside him.
"They won't come near her again," Haris said quietly. "Not here. Not anywhere."
Ejza glanced at him. "Administration?"
"Handled," Haris replied. "Official complaint. Written warning. Parents called. One more step and-"
He stopped himself.
Hazel's face flashed in his mind. Pale.
Trembling. Still trying to be brave.
"No violence," he finished. "She doesn't need that shadow following her."
Kabir exhaled slowly. "You sure?"
Haris's jaw tightened.
"I'm not sure of anything," he admitted. "Except that she should never feel unsafe again."
They left soon after.
On the drive home, Haris's phone buzzed.
Ammi: Beta, Hazel is awake. Inaya is with her.
Relief hit him so hard he had to slow the car.
Hazel POV -
Hazel woke to familiar voices.
Inaya's soft chatter. Ammi's gentle footsteps.
And then-
Haris.
She turned her head instantly.
There he was.
Standing near the door like he wasn't sure he was allowed to breathe yet.
"Haris," she whispered.
He was beside her in seconds.
She sat up and wrapped her arms around him tightly, pressing her face into his chest.
"I'm here," he murmured, holding her carefully. "I've got you."
She shook her head against him.
"It's not your fault," she said firmly. "Allah protected me. Don't punish yourself."
His hold tightened - not possessive, just shaken.
"You were scared," he said quietly.
"Yes," she admitted. "But I wasn't alone."
She pulled back slightly, looking up at him.
"You went back to the college."
It wasn't a question.
Haris stilled.
"Hazel-"
"Tell me," she insisted gently. "I don't want silence. I want honesty."
He searched her face - strength wrapped in softness.
So he told her.
"Kabir and Ejza came with me. We identified them. Administration took action."
Her fingers curled into his sleeve.
"What did you do to them?" she asked softly.
"Nothing," he said. "Because today wasn't about anger. It was about your safety."
Her eyes softened.
"You were scared," she said again.
"I was terrified," he corrected.
"When I heard your voice... I couldn't breathe."
Hazel placed her palm over his heart.
"I don't want you carrying this alone," she whispered.
"I don't want you hurting yourself for me."
"I'm your husband," he replied quietly. "Protecting you isn't a burden."
She shook her head gently.
"Then protect me with sabr. With dua. With trust."
Silence settled between them - healing, not heavy.
Haris lowered his forehead to hers.
"Next time," he promised, "you call me before fear reaches you."
"And next time," she replied, "you remember Allah is always between me and harm."
He kissed her brow.
"Alhamdulillah."
Later .......
Inaya peeked in, smiling softly.
"Bhabhi," she said, "Bhaiya skipped lunch again."
Hazel narrowed her eyes instantly.
She looked at Haris.
"You didn't eat."
"I was busy," he said weakly.
She grabbed his wrist - not hard, just enough.
"Sit," she ordered. "Now."
Inaya laughed. "I'll bring food."
Haris watched Hazel carefully as she ate - slowly, properly - colour returning to her face.
"You see," she said quietly, catching his gaze, "I'm alright."
He nodded, but his eyes stayed watchful.
"I have you," she added softly. "Allah gave me safe hands."
His throat tightened.
"And I have you," he replied. "Every breath."
She smiled - small, sincere.
And for the first time since the incident, the house felt calm again.
Not because fear was gone.
But because love had learned how to stand guard without breaking.
